Annual Florida-Friendly Landscaping Seminar Returns March 22

Florida Friendly Landscaping Seminar attendees look at native plants on display inside the auditorium

The annual Florida-Friendly Landscaping Seminar returns March 22 to the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus Boulevard.

This free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with check-in starting at 8:15 a.m.

There will be four presentations, a rain barrel workshop, and a variety of vendors. Free breakfast items and goody bags will be offered to all attendees, and there will be a raffle drawing after the presentations.

Schedule: 

9 a.m. – 9:10 a.m.: Lagoon Life Welcome

9:10 a.m. – 9:20 a.m.: Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition, Craig Wallace

9:20 a.m. – 10:05 a.m.: “Restoring the Indian River Lagoon Takes Everyone,” Kathy Hill, Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program (IRLNEP)

10:10 a.m. – 10:55 a.m.: “Upgrade Your Landscape to a FOODscape,” Sally Scalera, UF/IFAS Extension Brevard County

10:55 a.m. – 11:25 a.m.: BREAK

11:25 a.m. – 12:10 p.m. “Habitat Gardening with Florida Natives,”  Tim and Anna Harrison, Native Butterfly Flowers

12:10 p.m. – 12:25 p.m.: BREAK

12:25 p.m. – 1:10 p.m.: “Shoreline Buffers: From the Lagoon to your HOA,” Skip Healy, Change of Greenery

1:15 p.m.: Raffle Drawing

1:45 p.m.: Rain Barrel Workshop

The Florida-Friendly Landscaping Seminar is planned and organized by the City of Melbourne, City of West Melbourne, Brevard County Solid Waste, the University of Florida/IFAS Brevard Extension and the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program/Indian River Lagoon Council.
