On Saturday, September 17, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. the City of Melbourne, in collaboration with Keep Brevard Beautiful Inc. (KBB) and the Ocean Conservancy, will be hosting two cleanup sites as part of the 2022 International Coastal Cleanup.
The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastlines.
The City of Melbourne invites you to join in on this effort to tackle litter along our vulnerable waterways and lagoon. We have two cleanup locations. Check-in for both sites will be at 8 a.m.
- Ballard Park, 924 Thomas Barbour Drive. Volunteers will clean along the bank, on the water and around the park. Kayaks and other small vessels are welcome.
- Rigg’s Outpost’s dock, 990 E. Melbourne Avenue. From there, volunteers can use their own kayaks or rent one for a discounted price of $10 from Rigg’s Outpost. All participants must sign a waiver before using their dock. This can be done through the Rigg's Outpost website or on the day of the event. Many thanks to Anthony Marks, owner of Rigg’s Outpost, for being a partner and donating his time and dock for the 2022 International Coastal Cleanup.
To register, please go to our Eventbrite page.
You can also call the ECO Division at 321-608-5080 or email Recycle@mlbfl.org to register.
The City encourages participants to bring a pair of gloves, water to stay hydrated, snacks, proper clothing for rough terrain, sunscreen and bug spray. The two site locations will have water from a large jug available. Participants must bring their own water bottles.
