Competitive Salary
The Melbourne Police Department offers a competitive salary in line with other local law enforcement agencies. The current starting salary range for Communication Officers is $46,060.82 to $49,412.48 annually ($22.14 - $23.75 hourly), based on experience. Upon successful completion of the training period, candidates will receive a minimum 5% pay increase. Salary ranges are reviewed annually, and wage adjustments are subject to City Council approval. Additionally, the City provides a 4% shift differential for Communication Officers assigned to evening and midnight shifts, as well as incentive pay for those in specialty teams.
This position requires a Florida Department of Health 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator certification. The department will cover the cost of the online Public Safety Telecommunicator course and the state exam.
A $2,500 sign-on bonus is offered, with $1,500 paid upon hire and the remaining balance paid once the candidate has completed the Florida Department of Health 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator course and passed the state exam.
