Purpose

The Melbourne Police Department’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) provides donations to not-for-profit organizations that promote programs toward drug abuse education, drug treatment, drug prevention, crime prevention, or safe neighborhoods pursuant to § 932.7055 (5) (a), Florida Statutes. This application is specifically for funds related to National Night Out. The 2024 National Night Out focus is to foster relationships between law enforcement and children and families within the community, encourage crime prevention, and promote a drug-free atmosphere in order to improve community safety and, hopefully, reduce juvenile crime and drug activity.

The 2024 National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, October 1, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Application Period

Monday, July 22, 2024, through Friday, August 2, 2024.

The Melbourne Police Department will be accepting applications for Letters of Intent for LETF funding donations to not-for-profit organizations to host a National Night Out community event. Applications must be received by the Melbourne Police Department by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024.

Requirements

An organization that receives contributions from other City funding sources may be excluded from this program. For example, if an organization receives funding from a Community Redevelopment Agency or the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, it may not also receive funding from the General Fund. However, an organization may receive funding from one funding source for multiple uses.

  • The total funding available for 2024 National Night Out is $3,500. The amount each organization receives will be determined by the number of qualified applications received.
  • Funding must be used for the 2024 National Night Out.
  • LETF funds are made available only to not-for-profit organizations.
  • LETF funds must be spent to benefit the residents of Melbourne.
  • Organization must provide services and/or perform activities that are eligible for LETF grant funding, wishes to apply for the LETF monies for the City of Melbourne Police Department National Night Out, and agrees to comply with § 932.7055, Florida Statutes and the stated purpose of the National Night Out.
  • Organization agrees that any monies received pursuant to § 932.7055 (5) (c), Florida Statutes, shall provide an accounting for such monies, shall furnish the same report as the CITY that receives public funds and may be expend the monies in accordance with the procedures outlined in § 932.7055 (5) (c) (1)-(3), Florida Statutes.
  • Organizations must subscribe to values which create an environment within the City in which all persons can enjoy rights and opportunities regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, physical, mental, or economic status.
  • A Letter of Intent outlining the use of the LETF finds must be submitted on or before the due date by every Organization that wishes to apply.
  • Organizations that receive LETF funds must enter into a Grant Funding Agreement with the City of Melbourne prior to receipt of LETF funds.

Organizations will be required to provide documentation to support the purpose of the LETF funding applications.
